THE FIE AND THE TOWN HALL OF DISTRICT N°6 ARE COMMITTED
The Environmental Intervention Fund (FIE) and the town hall of district No. 6 of Ouagadougou are committed to developing a grove. In order to allow delegates to better understand the project, the President of the special delegation of the district, Mrs. Céline PODA/SOME, invited the FIE to the third ordinary session of District No. 6 of Ouagadougou, this Wednesday, September 11, 2024.
The Head of the FIE Center Regional Branch, Boukary KABORE, representing the Director General, made a presentation on the project. According to him, the project responds to the need for the development of initiatives to restore vegetation cover; to the development of new approaches by the Government; in particular the “My institution, my grove” initiative and to improve the effectiveness of reforestation actions.
Mr. KABORE emphasizes that the project aims to contribute to strengthening the vegetation cover and environmental education; to provide ecosystem, social and even economic services. It also intends to improve the microclimate of the neighborhood; mitigate the effects of air pollution; improve local biodiversity; promote relaxation and development of local residents and serve as an educational space to raise public awareness of botany and ecology. In short, Boukary KABORE notes that the project to develop a grove in district No. 6 aims to improve the living environment of local populations.
For the success of the project, the Head of the Regional Branch of the FIE Center notes that " the establishment of an urban grove is an initiative that must benefit from the involvement and participation of local residents, in order to encourage their ownership of the project and prevent social conflicts ." It is also essential , he mentions, to allow them " to understand the objectives, benefits, impacts of the project and their contribution to its success ."
According to Mr. KABORE, the information of local residents has begun and will continue through individual interviews, public meetings, posters. Also, it is planned to organize the active participation of local residents through the establishment of a project monitoring unit.
More than 600 tree seedlings to be combined with a suitable number of shrubs and herbaceous plants will be planted on the space that has been made available to the FIE for development in district No. 6. In addition to the fence and the various developments, an equipped borehole will be built on the land with a surface area of approximately 2,000 m2 located in the Cissin district for the maintenance of the seedlings.
At the end of the FIE presentation, the President of the special delegation of district No. 6 and the delegates welcomed the initiative that will be implemented jointly for the happiness of local residents, in particular, and the population, in general. Boukari KABORE reassured the President of the special delegation of district No. 6 and the delegates that the FIE is determined to make the grove an example of success that inspires.
