THE SOMPAGNIMDI FOUNDATION FOR DEVELOPMENT (FSD) PLANTS MORE THAN 500 BAOBAB TREES IN SA MESGA, IN PASSORE
The Sompagnimdi Foundation for Development (FSD) headed by Mr. Sompagnimdi Joseph KAFANDO, Certified Chartered Accountant in collaboration with the Environmental Intervention Fund (FIE) and the NGO TREE AID, proceeded with the planting of more than 500 Baobabs, on Friday July 25, 2025, in the village of Mesga (commune of Samba, province of Passoré).
According to the President of the Foundation, this reforestation campaign is part of the launch of the " One Woman, One Baobab " project. During the ceremony, more than 500 baobabs were planted in the locality, with around 200 protective grilles.
The overall objective of the project is to enable approximately 1,000 women from the village of Mesga and the surrounding area to each plant and maintain a Baobab tree in order to contribute to the fight against desertification; reducing the effects of climate change; food security and ensuring sustainable development in Burkina Faso.
Specifically , the Sompagnimdi Foundation for Development (FSD) aims to raise awareness among women about sustainable environmental management and the fight against desertification; provide logistical and educational support for the planting and maintenance of Baobabs and improve the quality of local food through the consumption of Baobab leaves, which are rich in nutrients.
The Foundation also aims to strengthen the role of women in the fight against deforestation and soil restoration; create a sustainable source of income through the harvesting, processing and sale of Baobab products; encourage tree planting to combat desertification and the effects of climate change; and establish a financial incentive system to reward women who have kept their trees alive for a year.
The activity was attended by the local municipal, customary, and religious authorities. The Environmental Intervention Fund joined this noble cause to contribute to the regreening of Burkina Faso.
