CONSULTATIONS BETWEEN THE DIRECTOR GENERAL OF THE FIE AND THE DIRECTOR GENERAL OF CUSTOMS
The Director General (DG) of the Environmental Intervention Fund (FIE), Delwendé Davy NANEMA was received in audience, on the morning of Friday, August 8, 2025 in Ouagadougou, by the Director General of Customs (DGD), Dr. Yves KAFANDO.
The DG of the FIE congratulated the DGD on his recent promotion to this position and wished him every success throughout his term. Subsequently, Mr. NANEMA gave a brief presentation of the FIE to the DGD, highlighting that the structure was accredited, in February 2025, as a national entity for direct access to the Green Climate Fund (GCF). He clarified that the FIE is Burkina Faso's financial tool for achieving its environmental policy objectives. Mr. NANEMA continued that the FIE has three (03) main functions, namely: mobilizing financing; selecting projects and allocating financing and monitoring the use of allocated funds.
The objectives of the FIE integrate the three (03) dimensions of sustainable development: contributing to the achievement of Burkina's environmental objectives, to support strong and sustainable growth in the country in the medium and long term; a tool for economic development by creating wealth and income in the environmental and natural resource sectors and a tool for combating poverty by promoting access for vulnerable groups and improving the sustainable management of the natural resources on which they depend.
Following this presentation by the FIE, its Director General informed the Director General that the FIE intends to organize, in the coming days, a national workshop for stakeholders in the mobilization of endogenous resources. He took the opportunity to request the Director General's support for the success of the activity. Mr. NANEMA also thanked Customs for the efforts made to mobilize resources related to the import of plastic packaging and bags.
Speaking, the Director General of the FIE, Dr. Yves Kafando, welcomed the approach of the Director General of the FIE and expressed his willingness to assist the FIE in the implementation of the workshop. He emphasized that Customs also needs to establish a partnership with the FIE in the implementation of environmental activities, as there is increasing talk of "Green Customs."
Dr. KAFANDO said he was waiting for the Terms of Reference of the workshop promised by the Director General of the FIE in the coming days, to better understand the organization of the national workshop on the mobilization of endogenous resources.
