FIE AT THE BIODIGESTOR SCHOOL IN CHINA
From September 10 to October 1, 2025, Jean Philippe Ouédraogo, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation of the Environmental Intervention Fund (FIE), took part in the international seminar on the promotion and management of biogas in developing countries, in Chengdu, Xianyang and Guangzhou, People's Republic of China.
This training, which brought together participants from six (6) countries (Burkina Faso, Ghana, South Africa, Egypt, Myanmar and Jordan), materializes the expression of South-South cooperation aimed at strengthening the capacities of institutions engaged in the energy transition towards sustainable and resilient models.
The FIE's participation in this seminar is part of the dynamics of consolidating its accreditation to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), which requires proven expertise in the formulation and implementation of climate projects.
Through a comprehensive program covering various modules (ranging from biodigester technology to ecological governance, including quality standards and biogas economic models), Mr. Ouédraogo was able to consolidate his technical and strategic knowledge on low-carbon energy solutions adapted to rural and peri-urban contexts.
This immersive training allowed participants to understand the advances in biodigesters and their potential for integration into climate change adaptation and mitigation projects, positioning them as levers for sustainable solutions.
Thus, through case studies and discussions with Chinese experts, the FIE representative deepened his understanding of the mechanisms for integrating this technology into initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and strengthen community resilience. His active involvement earned him the appointment to deliver the closing address on behalf of the seminar participants.
Back in Burkina Faso, this experience represents a strategic asset for the FIE in the formulation and structuring of climate projects integrating the recovery of organic waste. It will contribute to strengthening the structure's capacity to mobilize international financing, particularly from the Green Climate Fund and the Adaptation Fund.
Finally, this training opens up real prospects for the formulation of climate projects based on the valorization of biodigesters. With this in mind, the FIE plans, in collaboration with sector stakeholders, to identify and formulate new projects from 2026.
