The word of the Minister in charge of the Environment, Roger BARO, represented by the Secretary General of the department, Doctor Bouraïma KOUANDA, marked the opening ceremony of the activity. According to Dr. KOUANDA, aware of the repercussions of the harmful effects of conflicts between humans and wildlife on humans, their property and the environment, the authorities have taken regulatory measures through DECREE N°2016-111/PRES/PM/MEEVCC/MATDSI on the conditions and modalities for repairing damage caused by certain wild animal species in Burkina Faso.

Thus, the implementation of said decree required the application of Article 37 of the Special Statutes of the FIE, establishing the Thematic Committee "Forest and Fauna". This Committee is a technical body which generally plays the role of decision-making support for financing and coordination decisions with stakeholders in the field covered by each thematic fund .
It should be noted that as part of its activities, the "Forest-Fauna" thematic committee held a session, from September 11 to 13, 2023, to examine the 270 Minutes (PV) from the regions of Boucle du Mouhoun, Cascades, Center-East, Center-West, Center-South, Hauts-Bassins and South-West.
At the end of the deliberation process, two hundred and fifty-eight (258) PV have been validated for a total amount of seventy-nine million nine hundred and thirty-six thousand six hundred and sixty-four (79,936,664) CFA francs. For the Secretary General of the Ministry in charge of the Environment, the ceremony of this November 14, 2024 provides an opportunity to officially present checks to some victims of damage and to demonstrate the efforts made by the government in mitigating human-wildlife conflicts and for peaceful coexistence between humans and wildlife.

The panel provided an opportunity to discuss the following topics: the impact of insecurity on wildlife protection areas and wildlife; the state of ex situ wildlife farming in Burkina Faso and the state of compensation for victims of damage caused by certain species of wildlife. and perspective.
The discussions at the end of the panel allowed, on the one hand, to inform the participants on important aspects of wildlife management and, on the other hand, to identify recommendations which will guide actions in the future.
