LOCAL RESIDENTS WELCOME THE INITIATIVE AND COMMIT TO SUPPORTING THE PROJECT
In order to involve local residents in the creation of a grove in district No. 6 of Ouagadougou, the General Directorate of the Environmental Intervention Fund (FIE) organized a working session with them, this Tuesday, November 19, 2024, in the evening.
The Head of the FIE Center Regional Branch, Boukary KABORE, representing the Director General, made a presentation on the project. According to him, the grove responds to the need for the development of initiatives to restore vegetation cover; to the development of new approaches by the Government; in particular the “ My institution, my grove ” initiative and to improve the effectiveness of reforestation actions.
For the success of the project, the Head of the Regional Branch of the FIE Center noted that " the establishment of an urban grove is an initiative that must benefit from the involvement and participation of local residents, in order to encourage their ownership of the project and prevent social conflicts ." It is also essential, he mentioned, to allow them " to understand the objectives, benefits, impacts of the project and their contribution to its success ."
More than 600 tree seedlings to be combined with a suitable number of shrubs and herbaceous plants will be planted on the space that has been made available to the FIE to be developed in district No. 6. In addition to the fence and the various developments, an equipped borehole will be carried out on the land with an area of approximately 2,000 m2 located in the Cissin district for the maintenance of the seedlings.
At the end of the FIE presentation, the local residents, mobilized for the occasion, welcomed the initiative that will be implemented, jointly, for the happiness of local residents, in particular, and the population, in general. They asked questions, made suggestions and made contributions for the success of the project.
The representative of the Director General, Boukari KABORE, thanked the local residents who adopted the project while reassuring them that the FIE is determined to make the grove an example of success that inspires.
