The "Forest - Fauna" Thematic Committee of the Environmental Intervention Fund (FIE) held its first ordinary session of the year, from Monday 18 to Thursday 21 November 2024 in Ouagadougou. Two hundred and fifty-seven (257) minutes were examined by the members of the committee. These minutes come from the regions of Cascades; Centre-South; Centre-West; Haut-Bassins; South-West and Boucle du Mouhoun.
In total, one hundred and sixty-nine (169) reports were validated out of the two hundred and fifty-seven (257) received; thirty-three (33) validated with reservations and fifty-five (55) invalidated. The 169 validated PVs are estimated at 43,082,095 FCFA. As for the PVs validated with reservations, they are estimated at 30,041,689 FCFA. And the invalidated PVs are estimated at 21,357,024 FCFA. With regard to the reports validated with reservations, missions from the Environmental Intervention Fund will go to the field for additional assessments in order to make a final decision.
It should be noted that the members of the Committee took into account a number of aspects in the examination of the minutes. This concerns the verification of the following documents deemed obligatory: the date of establishment of the minutes; the conformity of the constituent parts of the report (original of the requisition, the victim's identity document); the method of calculating or estimating damage; compliance with the reporting framework and the amount of the PV exceeding 500,000 FCFA must be subject to a verification mission.
Furthermore, they focused on the identification of the wildlife species responsible; the typology of conflicts and damage caused by human-wildlife conflicts; the location of the damage and the number of PV of the victim during the last two years.
