PONASI1

The Director General of the Environmental Intervention Fund (FIE), Delwendé Davy NANEMA and his team had a working session, this Tuesday, January 7, 2025 in Ouagadougou, with the Coordinator of the Sustainable and Integrated Management of the Landscape of the Protected Areas of the Pô- Nazinga -Sissili Complex (PONASI) project , Diakouba SIRIMA.

Mr. SIRIMA came to discuss with the FIE team its mechanism for managing human/wildlife conflicts, given that his project has a component dealing with the issue. The objective is therefore to better understand the mechanism set up by the FIE, to draw inspiration from it and to lay the foundations for collaboration with the structure for better management of the issue.

The FIE and PONASI have decided to join hands to develop a strategy for managing human/wildlife conflicts and to implement a number of activities to better address the problem.

The Director General of the FIE welcomed the approach of the PONASI Coordinator and noted the Fund's willingness to work on its structure.

PONASI2

PONASI aims to safeguard essential wildlife habitat, biodiversity and ecosystem services in the Pô- Nazinga -Sissili protected area complex through integrated landscape management.

With a total cost of more than five million US dollars, it will, among other things, improve the management of more than 350,000 ha of protected areas, corridors and hunting zones; 55,000 ha of forest development sites managed by communities; the avoidance of 5.4 million tonnes of CO2 in terms of emissions.
