FIE AND ST/GIRE COMMITTED TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A NEW PROGRAMME FOR IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF WATER BODIES
The Environmental Intervention Fund (FIE) and the Technical Secretariat for Integrated Water Resources Management (ST/GIRE) held a working session this Wednesday, February 12, 2025 in Ouagadougou.
The meeting focused on a program developed by ST/GIRE and entitled " Improving the quality of water bodies for increased resilience of populations and ecosystems in the face of climate change ". This program, according to ST/GIRE, Assiata OUATTARA/PORGO, aims to improve the management of water bodies and strengthen the resilience of communities in the face of climate change and the depletion of natural resources.
The Technical Secretariat for Integrated Water Resources Management said it had approached the FIE in search of a technical and/or financial partner capable of providing expertise and support to implement the various actions that make up the program. These actions include mapping recharge areas and potential pollution sites, restoring degraded ecosystems and protecting them, setting up participatory water management mechanisms, promoting innovative and sustainable solutions for water management with a focus on preventing and managing pollution.
Addressing the Director General of the FIE, ST/GIRE, Assiata OUATTARA/PORGO stressed: "the expertise of the FIE in the field of natural resource management and your commitment to sustainable development would be valuable assets to ensure the mobilization of resources necessary for the success of the program ."
The Director General of the FIE, Delwendé Davy NANEMA welcomed the willingness of the ST/GIRE to work in synergy with the FIE for the implementation of the program. He congratulated the structure for the initiative and marked the FIE's support for the program.
The two parties discussed the maturation of the project, especially the actions to be taken into account to make it attractive in order to mobilize financial resources for its implementation.
The FIE and the ST/GIRE have decided to continue their discussions and work in synergy, as recommended by the hierarchy of the Ministry responsible for the Environment, in order to achieve more impactful results.
