REVIEW OF PLANS AND PROGRAMS FOR THE REHABILITATION AND CLOSURE OF MINES AND QUARRIES

 The interministerial technical committee for the review of plans and programs for the rehabilitation and closure of mines and quarries, of the interministerial committee for monitoring and controlling the rehabilitation and closure of mines and quarries, held its first session of the year, this Wednesday, July 9, 2025 in Ouagadougou.

The workshop, chaired by the Secretary General of the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Sanitation (MEAA), Dr. Bouraïma KOUANDA, provided an opportunity to examine proposals for updating rehabilitation plans and draw up the annual report on the management of the Fund and the status of implementation of rehabilitation plans.

Specifically, the aim was to examine proposals for updating rehabilitation plans and changes to the texts; to present the 2024 annual report on the management of the Fund and the status of implementation of rehabilitation plans and to draw up prospects and a program of activities.

To ensure the effective restoration of industrial and semi-mechanized mine sites and industrial quarries, a Mine Rehabilitation and Closure Fund (FRFM) was created following Interministerial Order No. 2019-554/MEEVCC/MMC/MINEFID/MATDCS of October 30, 2019 establishing the Interministerial Technical Committee for the Review of Mine and Quarry Rehabilitation and Closure Plans and Programs, the Interministerial Committee for Monitoring and Control of Mine and Quarry Rehabilitation and Closure Works and setting the conditions for validation, disbursement, control of rehabilitation works and determination of eligible works.

The implementation of this activity responds to Article 13 of the above decree which indicates that the committee meets twice a year to examine proposals for updating rehabilitation plans and draw up the annual report on the management of the Fund and the status of implementation of rehabilitation plans.
