THE FIE ORGANIZES A WORKSHOP TO VALIDATE THE NATIONAL STRATEGY
The Director General of the Environmental Intervention Fund (FIE), Delwendé Davy NANEMA, chaired, this Wednesday, December 18, 2024 in Ouagadougou, the validation workshop of the Strategy for the Mobilization of Endogenous Resources in Environmental Matters (SMRE) 2025-2029, accompanied by an action plan 2025-2027 .
In his opening remarks, the Director General of the FIE stressed that the objective is to establish a national strategy to mobilize endogenous resources to support environmental actions in Burkina Faso. He thus invited the participants to criticize, without complacency, the document, in order to perfect it, to enable the FIE to achieve its objectives.
The Director of Funding Research, Donald Romaric ZOMA, in the presentation of the document, indicated that the SMRE is developed with a view to creating all the conditions for the capture of potential and sustainable endogenous resources in order to guarantee the implementation of the country's environmental policy. The development of the strategy followed the following stages: preparatory stage, including framing; data collection ; diagnosis ; formulation of the SMRE and its action plan and the last stage which is in progress, namely the validation and finalization of the documents, this December 18, 2024.
The Vision of the strategy is that: "by 2029, Burkina Faso mobilizes sufficient endogenous resources to achieve its environmental objectives thanks to an accessible financial instrument that unites national financing . "
The overall objective of the SMRE validation workshop is to ensure effective and sustainable mobilization of endogenous environmental resources for financial support to different groups of national stakeholders.
The expected impacts are that the thematic funds of the FIE are operational; the mobilization of endogenous resources in environmental matters by the FIE is increased; the mobilization of financial resources is essential for the implementation of the country's environmental policy; the implementation of the SMRE will provide sustainable resources for achieving Burkina Faso's environmental objectives.
Participants are expected to: amend the draft strategy for mobilizing endogenous resources in environmental matters 2025-2029; amend the draft action plan 2025-2027 of the mobilization strategy and validate the strategy for mobilizing endogenous resources in environmental matters 2025-2029 and its action plan 2025-2027.
The document was developed by an ad hoc committee set up for this purpose. It is composed of experts from the ministries responsible for the Environment, Finance, Trade, Mines and non-state actors such as representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Burkina Faso; the Association of Municipalities of Burkina Faso (AMBF) and the Permanent Secretariat of Non-Governmental Organizations (SPONG).
