Mady KABRE, journalist from Editions Sidwaya , won the special prize from the Environmental Intervention Fund (FIE), at the 28th edition of the “ Galian ” awards, this Friday, June 13, 2025, in Ouagadougou.
By awarding this prize on behalf of the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Sanitation for the second time, the FIE intends to encourage media professionals to take a greater interest in environmental issues, raising awareness of good and bad practices in the sector, in order to better preserve our environment.
Thus, with her work entitled: " Harmful practices on plant species in Burkina Faso: early picking of wild fruits in the Center-West: towards a gradual disappearance of species" , Mady KABRE won the special prize of the Environmental Intervention Fund, this June 13, 2025, on the occasion of the 28th edition of the Galian , a prestigious ceremony celebrating journalistic excellence in Burkina Faso. Her trophy and the check for one million (1,000,000) FCFA that accompanies it were presented to her by the Director General of the FIE, Delwendé Davy NANEMA.
In total, the jury received twenty-two (22) works from nineteen (19) candidates who dealt with issues of sanitation, living environment, environment and climate change against eight (08) works from eight (08) candidates in 2024.
At the end of its work, the jury noted an average level of the works analyzed with averages varying between 12.50/20 and 16.30/20.
The jury unanimously decided to award the work: " Harmful practices affecting plant species in Burkina Faso: early harvesting of wild fruits in the Centre-West: towards a gradual disappearance of species ."
The jury extends its encouragement to all the candidates who participated in this competition and congratulates the winner for the work accomplished.
During this 28th edition of the Galian , 25 official prizes and 32 special prizes were awarded to women and men in the media to reward their efforts and professionalism for the year 2025.
Unlike the previous edition where there was no "Super Galian ", this year, the Super Galian was won by journalist Ada Philippe Liradan of RTB, with an average above 17/20. He left with a trophy, gadgets, a financial envelope of three (3) million. He is also the winner of a villa worth 18 million FCFA.
