BURKINA FASO REPRESENTS THROUGH THE FIE IN ETHIOPIA
The Green Climate Fund (GCF) Regional Dialogue with Africa is being held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from September 29 to October 1, 2025. Burkina Faso is represented at this meeting through the Environmental Intervention Fund (EIF).
For 72 hours, two representatives of the FIE, namely the Director of Fundraising, Donald ZOMA and the Manager of Fundraising and Mobilization, Becquet Polycarpe BATIONO, participated in the work of this important regional workshop.
The Green Climate Fund Regional Dialogue with Africa aims to: clarify the strategic intent of the GCF; inform its partners of the GCF's regional focus on country ownership and prioritization and support climate ambitions in Africa.
The meeting provides a platform for a series of strategic and technical discussions as well as workshops focused on specific themes to support the acceleration of programming and the achievement of impacts in Africa.
Burkina Faso's participation in this regional workshop allows the FIE, a national entity newly accredited to the GCF, to familiarize itself with the GCF's new strategic plan (2024-2027) and its regional orientation on ownership and prioritization.
This meeting will also allow him to establish strategic partnerships to improve the mobilization of climate financing for the benefit of vulnerable communities in Burkina Faso.
The GCF Africa Regional Dialogue is a platform for stakeholders to facilitate peer-to-peer learning, share experiences and good practices, and celebrate key successes.
It brings together designated national authorities, accredited entities such as the FIE, implementing partners and other GCF partners from across Africa and will take stock of the results, opportunities and challenges of GCF programming in Africa.
It is worth noting that the Green Climate Fund is the largest global climate fund dedicated to developing countries. As an operational entity of the financial mechanism of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and in support of the Paris Agreement, the GCF has committed more than US$12 billion to 216 projects in 128 developing countries since its inception, leveraging an additional US$33 billion in public and private co-financing.
