THE FIE AND THE VARIOUS STAKEHOLDERS PROCEED WITH THE MATURATION OF A PROJECT
The Environmental Intervention Fund (FIE), in collaboration with the Executive Secretariat of the Green Climate Fund in Burkina Faso (SE-FVC/BF), organized, this Thursday, October 16, 2025, in Ouagadougou, a scoping meeting on the maturation of the project called " Promotion of low-carbon technologies and the rational use of trees for medicinal and energy purposes in the Hauts-Bassins and Cascades regions of Burkina Faso ".
This project, led by the FIE as an accredited entity, is among the projects prioritized for resource mobilization from the Green Climate Fund identified by the SE-FVC/BF in a document prioritizing its pipeline of projects/programs and preparation support needs.
It should be noted that this concept note was developed as part of the readiness "support for the accreditation of direct access entities, pipeline development and private sector mobilization in Burkina Faso" which enabled the preparation and submission of the FIE's file for direct access to the GCF. The said concept note was officially submitted to the GCF in 2021.
This activity is being held because the GCF recently adopted a new framework to which new submissions must align. Furthermore, during the 6th session of the GCF National Structured Dialogue in April 2025, a recommendation was made to the FIE to mature and submit the medicinal plants project, with broad stakeholder consultation to better address the needs of beneficiaries and ensure real national ownership of the project.
The overall objective of this scoping meeting is to contribute to the mobilization of resources from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the strengthening of the resilience of human and ecological systems.
Specifically, this involves strengthening the capacities of FIE staff in the design of climate projects; ensure broad consultation with project stakeholders to take their expectations into account and develop the Project Preparation Facility (PPF) document. This also includes taking into account the GCF's comments on the concept note; adapting the concept note to the new GCF framework, resubmitting it to the GCF and following the endorsement process.
The framing workshop, chaired by the Director General of the FIE, Delwendé Davy NANEMA, enabled the validation of the methodological approach, the work schedule and the data collection tools.
