WATER AID

The Director General (DG) of the Environmental Intervention Fund (FIE), Delwendé Davy NANEMA and his colleagues had a working session with the Country Director of WaterAid , Lucien DAMIBA and his team, on the evening of Monday, November 3, 2025, in Ouagadougou.

At the heart of the discussions was the organization of the national workshop on environmental resource mobilization, to be held next December by the FIE. According to the FIE's Director General, this workshop aims to provide a framework for reflection, exchange, and consultation among the various stakeholders (state actors, local authorities, the private sector, civil society, technical and financial partners, researchers, etc.) on the mobilization of endogenous environmental resources.

He therefore invited WaterAid to actively participate in the event, given its expertise in mobilizing resources for the environment and climate. Speaking next, WaterAid 's Country Director , Lucien Damiba, commended the FIE's approach and initiative and expressed his organization's willingness to support the FIE in implementing the workshop.

WaterAid and the FIE have also committed to exploring avenues of collaboration for the implementation of future projects, through, for example, the development and implementation of concept notes.

To raise awareness of the FIE, Mr. Nanema gave a brief presentation of its structure, highlighting its accreditation in February 2025 as a national entity with direct access to the Green Climate Fund (GCF). He explained that the FIE is Burkina Faso's financial tool for achieving its environmental policy objectives. Mr. Nanema went on to say that the FIE has three main functions: mobilizing funding; selecting projects and allocating funding; and monitoring the use of allocated funds.

In his presentation, the Director General of the FIE emphasized that the fund has five (05) main areas of intervention, which are thematic funds. These are: " Environment and living conditions"; " Risks and disasters"; " Forests and wildlife" ; "Management of natural resources (soil and water)" ; and " Promotion of sustainable practices in the productive sectors and energy".
