UNDP AND TREE AID COMMIT TO SUPPORTING THE FIE

The Director General (DG) of the Environmental Intervention Fund (FIE), Delwendé Davy NANEMA, held a working session with the Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Eloi KOUADIO IV, and the Country Director of Tree Aid Burkina Faso, Daniel Désiré OUEDRAOGO, this Tuesday, November 4, 2025, in Ouagadougou.

Regarding the UNDP, Mr. Nanema thanked the Deputy Resident Representative for his willingness to engage with the FIE and expressed his organization's commitment to strengthening its partnership with the UNDP. The FIE Director General hopes that the UNDP, given its experience and expertise, can support the FIE, which has just been accredited as a National Entity for Direct Access to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), in mobilizing maximum resources for environmental and climate projects in Burkina Faso.

Eloi Kouadio IV emphasized UNDP's willingness to support the FIE (International Fund for Economic Development) in its accreditation process to enhance its operational capabilities. To this end, UNDP stated its readiness to assist the FIE in preparing applications and to co-develop projects.

As for Tree Aid , the Director General of FIE, requested the strengthening of relations with this organization through the joint implementation of actions. The Country Director of Tree Aid Burkina Faso, Daniel Désiré OUEDRAOGO, said he was willing to work with the FIE to achieve environmental and climate objectives.

Following this initial meeting, the FIE delegation held discussions with the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative and the Tree Country Director. Aid Burkina Faso on the organisation of the national workshop of actors for the mobilisation of endogenous resources in environmental matters, scheduled for next December, by the FIE.

According to the Director General of the FIE, this workshop is intended to be a framework for reflection, exchange and consultation between the various actors (state actors, local authorities, private sector, civil society, technical and financial partners, researchers, etc.) on the mobilization of endogenous resources in environmental matters.

The Director of Funding Research, Donald Romaric ZOMA, noted that the overall objective of this first session is to strengthen the synergy of actions between stakeholders for a greater mobilization of endogenous financing in environmental matters for the benefit of Burkina Faso.

According to him, the specific aim will be to present the different missions of the actors involved in mobilizing endogenous resources for the environment; to analyze existing internal mobilization mechanisms and their limitations; to identify new, innovative approaches adapted to the Burkinabe context; and to arrive at recommendations and an operational roadmap for the sustainable financing of environmental actions.

Following this presentation, the Director General of the FIE invited UNDP and Tree Aid actively participated in the event. The UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, Eloi KOUADIO IV, and the Country Director of Tree Aid Burkina Faso and Daniel Désiré OUEDRAOGO welcomed the FIE's initiative in organizing this workshop and expressed their organizations' willingness to support the activity. This support will take the form of contributing to the facilitation of panels and presentations on various topics.

To raise awareness of the FIE, Mr. NANEMA gave a brief presentation of its structure, highlighting that the fund has five (05) main areas of intervention, each a thematic fund. These areas are: "Environment and Living Conditions"; "Risks and Disasters"; "Forests and Wildlife"; "Management of Natural Resources (Soil and Water)"; and "Promotion of Sustainable Practices in the Productive Sectors and Energy".
